Carl Jung, the Self and Conversation

Conformity is one side of a man, uniqueness is the other. Carl Jung

In dabbling with some of Jung’s theories around the Self and its drive to individuation, it occurred to me that the capacity for conversation to lead us to personal revelations and growth had some role to play in or similarities with that process. It seems to me as if we are all engaged in an attempt to conform at one level, while relishing those aspects of ourselves that make us special and unique. Inevitably, this requires a reconciliation of what separates us, as well as what commonly identifies us. As Jung’s Self seeks its objective of completeness, conversation is an immediate and fortuitous way that we can explore that for ourselves.
